What if I've never made a budget before?

Start by listing all the expenses you can think of (this includes subscription services, utilities, and categories such as beauty, clothes, and school). Once you have your list, write the due date and the average amount spent on each expense. Don't just guess on this; really go back through your last three bank statements and average out the amounts.

Once you have your list, open the weekly budget template and start filling it in. It's as simple as that. Budgets are meant to be a tool to see all your spending in one place. Updating it regularly and being honest with your amounts will help this be a resource, not a chore.

I don't have any debts, can I still use this?

Congrats, and yes! You can replace the categories with whatever fits your unique situation. No need to list out debts you don't have anymore, swap them out for sinking funds, savings accounts or fun stuff.

How do I add my transactions to the budget?

I believe the manual entry of your expenses allows you to consider your spending and plan appropriately. We suggest sitting down once or twice weekly and looking at your bank statement, then entering your spending in each category. Or, if you'd prefer, keep a small notebook/note on your phone with a running list of charges, then update the budget daily. Do whatever works best for your schedule and brain. The idea is to update the budget at least once a week and one more time to plan the next month.
